How to Choose a Personal Trainer

Today more and more people are joining health clubs. In their pursuit of improving their overall fitness level, they are looking for a skilled professional to assist them in attaining their fitness goals. That skilled professional is the Certified Personal Trainer. But have you checked out the Trainer you are about to hire? Is he or she really qualified to design and administer the appropriate exercise program for you? Here are a few helpful questions that you can ask a Trainer before you commission them to work with you.

Do you have Liability Insurance? If the answer is “yes,” then there is a good chance that they may be certified. Now that brings us to our second question.

What certification(s) do you have?
There are so many certifications floating around that it can sometimes be tricky to tell the good from the bad. Ask the Trainer if they received their certification online or if they attended workshops in order to become certified. Also, ask if they were required to take a written exam and/or a practical exam.

Can you provide a few client references? You want to know how professional, effective and dependable your potential trainer might be. Who better to ask than their previous or current clients? Make sure that the references are not family members.

What are your business policies? Before you retain the services of your prospective Trainer, you need to ask about their polices on cancellations, contracts, and billings.

What are your rates? I saved this question for last because now you have to make a decision on whether or not you are willing to make an investment in your health and well being. Your objective should not be to find a discount trainer, but to hire the most effective person to assist you in functioning, feeling, and looking your best. Let’s face it, if you were in need of open-heart surgery, you wouldn’t shop around for a discount surgeon. You would want the best surgeon you could find.

A Trainer’s rates can be as low as $20 an hour or as high as $150 per session. Typically a trainer will set their rates based upon experience, education, and the amount of success they have had assisting clients in achieving their goals. After all, trainers are in the results business and you want to commission the trainer who will help you achieve your optimum fitness level.

Good luck in your quest to find a personal trainer.
